Strange and Wonderful

Stuff at Neat Stuff

Opening the door of NeatStuff is truly a “WOW” experience.  To call it a consignment

or thrift store is not nearly the whole truth. There are consignment

items such as in the local art, furniture and miscellaneous

household things, but in reality, the colorful, funky, smiley feel of things that drives the little

6-year-old shop, hidden away out on Flagler Avenue.

There is definitely a tropical flair to the merchandise and

you get the feeling that this shop is what Key West is all about. In

fact, you can tell that the place is open when the life size, flashy

pink flamingo (a relic from a Fantasy Fest Parade) is out front

on the sidewalk. You’ll find Swarovski hanging crystals and tiaras to

die for, Lunch at the Ritz earrings that are “over the top”,  wind-up chattering teeth at $3

a hop and handpainted reading glasses that “make the words pop.” Are you getting the idea?

This store is fun!

The merchandise runs from high end to low end. Kookie sunglasses— guitars,

beer bottles, or adorned with Key West chickens— are displayed along with glittering

rhinestone extravaganzas. Opulent velvet shawls and coats hang alongside thrifty

used clothing, some of which have designer labels.

Neat Stuff prides itself on having the largest collection of Tervis Tumblers in the Florida

Keys (perhaps anywhere else) as well as the best collection of men’s tropical shirts, some

with brand names like Kahala, Tori Richard and Columbia. The shop also carries a full line of

crocs from the popular beach crocs to a dressy peep toe high-heeled wedge model.Kids find Neat Stuff a

magical place too. Who can resist trying out a flamingo or a

crocodile marionette or a pirate parrot or hippo hand puppet?

Cuddly stuffed animals and pet carriers are embraced as

treasures and little finger puppets stir the imagination. Way

up in the ceiling is a delightful collection of hand painted kites

that really do fly.  There’s handpainted  leather purses and wallets to

make your heart sing and M/C,  Visa and Amex to take away the

sting!! Service is special, aiming to please and there’s a lot in

front so parking’s a breeze. Neat Stuff is a shopping experience, so be prepared

to spend some time looking, enjoying and unearthing your own treasures.
